HAMLET’S UNCLE SPEAKS!
Following on from its successes in Barnstaple, Stroud, Robert Cohen’s new one-man show Something Rotten has lately made its home-town debut at the Dukebox, Hove.

Something Rotten is a paraquel to
Hamlet, re-telling Shakespeare’s iconic tale from the viewpoint  of the Prince’s murderous uncle-turned-stepfather, Claudius of Denmark. In what one Barnstaple theatregoer called “an extraordinary exploration of character”, the show examines the motives of King Claudius, the fratricidal regicide who marries his victim’s widow and thus excites both the homicidal and the famously procrastinatory instincts of the Prince.

Something Rotten is at the Dukebox Theatre at 8pm on 3rd Oct. More info
here. Tix £5, bookable here

• Robert has lately appeared in 3 shows at the Brighton Open Air Theatre, as Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, as  Demea in the Roman comedy The Eunuch (returning to BOAT on 18 Sept), and in the title role in the Shakespeare in a Day production of the late romance Cymbeline.
• “The character of disaffected traffic warden Kevin ‘Quint’ McBride is  inspired. ... Terrific stuff. Ricky Gervais could make millions from such an act.”
So said Quentin Letts of High Vis at the Edinburgh Festival. Click here to read his full review.

• Sheila Llewellyn’s The Papakh Hat is a story of love, fear and loss on the eve of the Iranian revolution. It was shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards.
Robert Cohen’s reading, recorded for Costa by the Spoken Ink company, can now be heard here.
